Benjamin Franklin’s Aphorisms
Students will read aphorisms from "Poor Richard's Almanac" (pg. 147-148). Students will then select ten aphorisms and write out what the lesson/moral/truth is of each. Lastly, students will need to illustrate/draw one of the aphorisms. This assignment is due at the end of the period.

Study for tomorrow's test.

Students took the Puritan Influence / "Sinners" Quiz today.  If you were absent and need to make up the quiz, please see me so that we can make arrangements for you to take it.

Review for English 3A Unit 1 Test
This Friday, 9/25/15, we will have a test that covers all of the material we have discussed thus far this semester.  Today, we began reviewing the PowerPoint presentation I made to facilitate your study.  

Students will be allowed to use a "cheat sheet" on this test, as long as it conforms to the following requirements: (1) one side of one piece of paper, (2) paper size: 8.5 x 11 (standard printer paper) or a sheet of binder paper, (3) notes must be handwritten (no exceptions).

Today, we reviewed everything we have learned about Puritan Influence and "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" in preparation for our test on Monday, 9/21/15.  Students were given time to create a "cheat sheet" to use on the test.  "Cheat sheet" requirements: one side of one page, either 8.5 x 11 or lined binder paper.

Puritan Influence
At the beginning of the class period, we reviewed what we have learned so far about Jonathan Edwards, The Great Awakening, etc.

"Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" (p. 108)
Students were given a few minutes to review the story (we did, after all, read it last week). After students finished reviewing the story, we discussed its different aspects. At the end of our discussion, I had the students sketch out a passage (the story was full of imagery!). The sketches were due by the end of the period.

Students were given a few minutes to finalize their posters and presentations.  Students that wanted to presented their poster to the class and received up to 5 points extra credit.

We spent the remainder of class discussing "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" and reviewing a corresponding powerpoint presentation.

Slave Narrative Group Project Instructions
Create a multimedia poster of FOUR slave narratives.  Use this website for your research/information gathering:
Slave Narratives

Include the following information for EACH narrative:
1. slave name
2. birth/family facts
3. summary/list of TEN events from their narrative
4. most interesting/powerful aspect of their narrative
5. if and how they made it out of slavery
6. life after slavery
7. TWO quotes
8. TWO illustrations/images/photos

Use today’s class time to find a partner, divide the workload, and start planning your poster.

Students can present their posters on Friday for extra credit.
