Weariness
O little feet! that such long years
Must wander on through hopes and fears,
Must ache and bleed beneath your load;
I, nearer to the wayside inn
Where toil shall cease and rest begin,
Am weary, thinking of your road!
O little hands! that, weak or strong,
Have still to serve or rule so long,
Have still so long to give or ask;
I, who so much with book and pen
Have toiled among my fellow-men,  (toil: work hard)
Am weary, thinking of your task.      (weary: feeling or showing tiredness;worn out)
O little hearts! that throb and beat
With such impatient, feverish heat,
Such limitless and strong desires;
Mine that so long has glowed and burned,
With passions into ashes turned
Now covers and conceals its fires.
O little souls! as pure and white
And crystalline as rays of light

Direct from heaven, their source divine;
Refracted through the mist of years,        (refracted: change of direction)
How red my setting sun appears,
How lurid looks this soul of mine!     (lurid: very vivid in color)
Hint: The color red is a symbol of???

Homework
“The Poets” analysis due Tuesday, 11/10/15.

The Poets
O ye dead Poets, who are living still
Immortal in your verse, though life be fled,
And ye, O living Poets, who are dead
Though ye are living, if neglect can kill,
Tell me if in the darkest hours of ill,
With drops of anguish falling fast and red
From the sharp crown of thorns upon your head,
Ye were not glad your errand to fulfill?
Yes; for the gift and ministry of Song
Have something in them so divinely sweet,
It can assuage the bitterness of wrong;      (assuage: make (an unpleasant feeling) less intense
Not in the clamor of the crowded street,
Not in the shouts and plaudits of the throng,  (plaudits: praise) (throng: large crowd of people)
But in ourselves, are triumph and defeat.
